Chandra R. Bhat
Professor Chandra R. Bhat is the head of Joe J. King's Department of Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He teaches traffic system analysis and traffic planning. He also served as deputy director of the Department of Civil Engineering, Construction and Environmental Engineering, and director of the Transportation Research Center. He was employed as a part-time professor of School of Economics and Management of Beijing Jiaotong University. Professor Chandra R. Bhat is recognized as a leading expert in the field of travel demand modeling and travel behavior analysis at home and abroad. His main research interests include land use and travel demand modeling, activity-based travel modeling, evaluation of traffic congestion policy by traffic control and congestion pricing measures, marketing research on competitive positioning strategies of transportation services, use of non motorized travel modes, and healthy green transportation. His research interests and expertise are econometrics and mathematical modeling, including discrete choice analysis, discrete continuous econometric system and risk duration model. His methodological works are widely cited in economics, marketing, geography, statistics and transportation, and are included in econometrics textbooks and software packages. Many of his works were published as journal papers and were listed as highly cited papers in the journal. His two papers were included in the collection of 46 most influential and innovative academic papers in the field of selection modeling in the past 60 years (Title: Choice Modeling: foundational contributions 2011, Edward Elgar Publishing Company). He has been cited more than 21500 times in Google Scholar database, with an H-index of 79. Dr. Bhat's research was funded by the National Science Foundation, the environmental protection agency, the National Institute of Statistical Sciences, the National Department of Transportation, including TxDOT, the National Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
