During September 6-8, 2014, T.C.Edwin Cheng, Dean of Graduate School of Business, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, chairman of the International Advisory Committee of School of Economics and Management, BJTU and Chair Professor, visited our school. On September 7, Prof. Cheng gave the academic dissertation and research guidance to the students engaged in the successive postgraduate and doctoral program. First of all, students introduced their own research results and the anxieties in their respective researches. Prof. Cheng gave the meticulous guidance and comments to each student about their specific research and questions, accurately identifying the problems in the studentso researches and gave the pertinent proposals for their research and the further improvement in their research orientation. Prof. Cheng also introduced the research projects he has participated in and his own academic research experience, so the postgraduates attending his lecture benefited a lot.
Prof. Cheng and the students attending the successive postgraduate and doctoral program shared the same idea that this model was really acceptable, offering the student the point-to-point (PTP) guidance and correction as the most effective approaches for the students to efficiently learn and supervise each other. Prof. Cheng said that he was willing to come over to give the students the on-site guidance once each semester, which is the best approach to supervise the students and understand their research level and progress and also give them the timely guidance.
