On October 23, 2014, a delegation led by Associate Dean Cui Yongmei from School of Economics and Management composed of six members, including, Prof. Ma Zhong from Accounting Department, Associate Professor Zhou Jianqin from Logistics Management Department, and three teachers from Postgraduate Work Office, respectively Song Guangsen, Du Yingxue, Dong Siyin, came to School of Management, Shandong University for the investigation and study of the postgraduate education.
The investigation seminar was presided over by Prof. Yang Huixin, Dean of School of Management, Shandong University, two associate deans in charge of the postgraduate work, some postgraduate supervisors, a dozen young teachers and the secretary of the Graduate Work Office, etc., attended the seminar. Dean Yang made a detailed introduction of the setting of the specialties and scale of the postgraduates and the postgraduate management. In view of the specialty arrangement, School of Management currently has three Ph.D specialties, respectively Business management, Management Science and Engineering and Accounting; six academic master specialties, say, Management Science & Engineering, Accounting, Business Management, Tourism Management, Technical Economics and Management and Library Science and 2 professional master degree programs, respectively Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Engineering. In view of the educational system, academic master program is 3 years, Postgraduate and Doctoral Program is 4-5 years. In view of the teacher staffing, attention is made to the international development and the school has appointed 4 foreign full-time teachers. In view of the courses, the public platform courses are offered to all academic master candidates, including Applied Statistics, Research Methods and Management Special Topics. In view of the mid and final-term exams, it is required that all registered postgraduate candidates should go through the strict written exams and the interviews, particularly the written exams focusing on the professional comprehensive exams and the professional English exams, and the interviews focusing on the evaluation of the Research Proposals.
Associate Dean Cui gave the detailed introduction of our school's postgraduate education process, degree awarding and ideological and political education work, etc., in combination of the actual work of our school. Then both sides had the warm exchange and discussion. School of Management, Shandong University has many advantages worth our learning from, particularly in all management and control links of its postgraduate education. In view of the academic exchange, School of Management, Shandong University will appoint several experts from the external institutions for a week-long summer school on the occasion of summer vacation each year; in view of the scholarship assessment, Shandong University pays more attention to the research capacity of the postgraduates as the assessment orientation with the course grades and performances of the postgraduate as the access conditions in assessing the scholarship, which, yet, does not incorporated into the assessment scores; in view of the thesis review, if a postgraduateos thesis requires larger amendments, he or she is required to apply the re-review half a year later.
Shandong University is incorporated into the key universities of pNational 211 Projectq and p985 Projectq, and its School of Management is worth our drawing on and learning from in respect of its many advanced systems and rich operation experience related to the postgraduate management work. Leaders of both schools hope that we can regularly promote the joint exchange and study in the future for mutual progress and improvement, thus more efficiently enhancing the academic qualities and comprehensive qualities of the postgraduates.
