On October 25-26, 2014, the 12th Annual Conference of China Industrial Technology Association of Economics & Management Institutes and the First International Conference on Management, Innovation& Development (MID2014) sponsored by Business Administration College of BJTU School of Economics and Management was successfully held at BJTU.
MID2014 was presided over by Zhang Mingyu, Party Secretary of BJTU School of Economics and Management. Chen Feng, deputy president of Beijing Jiaotong University, Zeng Xiaochun, Director-General of China Industrial Technology Association of Economics & Management Institutes,Xu Shoubo, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhang Qiusheng, Dean of BJTU School of Economics and Management, respectively made speeches. After the opening ceremony, Prof. Arie Lewin from Duke University, Prof. Chen Jing from Tsinghua University and Prof. Eric Yipeng Liu from Birmingham University delivered their respective theme reports. The conference also had three parallel forums for the extensive academic exchange.
Prof. Arie Lewin from Fuqua Business School of Duke University presented a theme report entitled pEmerging Trends in Global Sourcing of Innovationq. Arie discussed the lowering of the corporate R&D investment amount and the downtrend of the younger people in selecting jobs related to STEM (STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), and analyzed the reasons for the corporate offshore innovation and conducted the further analysis of the change of the structure of the STEM labor market by taking the study cases of China and Korea: the global suppliers are continuously increasing in the innovative market and there appears the online STEM talent market and the fast rise and the new development trends encouraging the knowledge innovation, etc.
Prof. Chen Jin from Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Strategy, School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, director of RCTI- Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences in Universities, analyzed the development course of the management science, commented on the classic system of the management science and also built the new system for the management science. With the deepening of the globalization, Informatization and ethicization and the arrival of the era of knowledge economy, knowledge and innovation become the main sources the sustainable competitive advantages for organizations. Also, the mature Internet economy calls for the change and development of the formerly efficiency-oriented management system. The new system of the management should transfer from the operation orientation to the innovation orientation, from the focus on the internal organization to the emphasis of the inter-organizations and from the management and control to the leadership and democracy and equal attention should be paid to the balance of the economic performances and the ethical equality.
Prof. Eric Liu from Birmingham University conducted the deep analysis of the mechanism innovation as ho how to be achieved through the collective entrepreneurial behaviors based on his study of the regional innovation and entrepreneurship environment, particularly against the backdrop of the extensive recruitment of intelligent and practical workers and the attraction of talents in China, which highlights the priority given to the flow of talents of the senior talents driven by the knowledge, experience and international relation connection; the interaction between the returned overseas Chinese talents and the local governments strongly boosted the formulation and implementation of the relevant policies for attracting the senior talents. In the comparative perspective, Prof. Eric Liu analyzed how to build the new colleges and universities, scientific research institutions due to the lack of the university capacity, or make up for the university capacity through the flow of talents.
Forum 1 was arranged at RM. 612 of East Siyuan Building of BJTU, where 6 authors reported their respective research results. The reporters came from Xioan Jiaotong University and BJTU. The scholars attending the forum came from Xi'an Jiaotong University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Xi'an University of Science and Technology , Shanxi University of Finance and Economics , Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication , Huzhou Teachers College, Chang'an University, etc. The reporters and scholars shared a lively discussion.
Dr. Chen Chen from Xi'an Jiaotong University gave a report entitled pCountermeasures research of leisure agriculture development in China based on the domestic and foreign experienceq, analyzing and pointing out that the urban-rural dual structure was the major barriers restricting the integrated urban and rural development. The second reporter was Xi Bei, who presented a report entitled pA Cloud Computing based Collaborative Service Pattern of Medical Association for Stroke Prevention and Treatmentq. As the current medical resources in China are not evenly distributed, pthe difficulty and high cost of getting medical treatmentq besetting the general public has become more and more important a hot issue in China. Gao Wan, the third reporter, talked about pResearch on Service Innovation Strategy of B2C E-commerce Enterpriseq, which was based on B2C E-business enterprises as the research object, conducting the research of the innovation of the sales service process, the distribution service process and after-sale service process and putting forward the service innovation strategy complied with B2C enterprises. Zhao Dan, as the 4th reporter, expounded on pComparative Analysis of the Manufacturing and Logistics Linkage Development ---Lessons from Developed Countriesq, which focused on the development situations of the current logistics industry in China, and he also pointed out the problems in the interactive development of Chinaos manufacturing industry and the logistics industry based on the study cases of the developed countries, particularly the USA, Japan, Germany for a comparison, and through the deeper study of the features of the logistics development in the USA, Japan and Germany, pointing out some feasible proposals and measures to improve on and enhance Chinaos current logistics development. The sixth reporter, Guo Xiaochen, focused on the report entitled pResearch on Business Model for Modern Agriculture Based on Value Networkq, which analyzed the connotative qualities and operational mechanism of the modern agriculture, pointing out that the key to the business model innovation lies in the modern agricultural development. The last reporter, Xie Hongwen, gave the report entitled pA Study on the Relationship Between Corporate Social Responsibility and Cost of Debt Financingq based on A-share listed companies on Shanghai and Shenzhen Exchanges during the period 2010-2012 as the study object to study the impact of the social responsibility of the Chinese listed companies on the corporate debt financing cost, At the close of the final report, experts seemed to have more to share and the reporters conducted the academic exchange on the research of strong interest.
The theme for Forum 2 is Crisis Management and Supply Chain. Prof. Frederick Benaben and Prof. Matthieu Lauras from University of Toulouse (in France) from which this yearos Nobel economics laureate graduated respectively introduced their latest research progress. Prof. Benaben focused on the theme pCoordination of Actors in Crisis Managementq, analyzing the four phases of the Coordination of actorso behaviors in the crisis management, respectively Prevention, Preparation, Response, Recovery from the perspective of the decision support. He also discussed from the crisis pre-warning, crisis intervention to the restoration of the decision support, organization coordination and information dissemination and integration process of the crisis management, and also analyzed the role played by the emerging information technology in the crisis management, say, Facebook, Twwiter, etc. Prof. Lauras presented a report entitled pDesign of Humanitarian Supply Chainsq by taking the study case of the frequent earthquakes which caused the tremendous disasters to the human society to analyze the humanistic rescue and support of the supply chain design in the crisis management and use the optimal methods and also explore all design processes of all rescue materials supply chains, structural features and the performances and results. The participants from every part of the world participated in the discussion of the two reports, and the practical and innovative contents of the reports aroused the strong response from the participants.
Forum 3 was arranged in the Multifunctional Hall of Machinery Building and presided over by Prof. Xiao Xiang. Prof. Gao Minghua, director of Governance and Enterprise Development Research Center of Beijing Normal University gave a report entitled pThe Corporate Governance, Classified reform state-owned enterprises and the development of mixed ownershipq. Prof. Gao is the chief expert of the major projects of National Social Science Fund, a professor of School of Economics and Business Administration, Ph.D. Supervisor and concurrently serving as a member of Professional Teaching Steering Committee of Management Specialty under the Ministry of Education, the Special economic analyst of Xinhua News Agency, a member of the 1st Information Disclosure Advisory Committee of Shanghai Stock Exchange and a member and the researcher of the academic committees of many universities and institutions like Tinghua University, etc. In early 2001,Prof. Gao Minghua initiated Corporate Governance and Enterprise Development Research Center of Beijing Normal University; in 2008, he took a lead in China to put forward the concept of pSub-index of the corporate governance in Chinaq and built pChina Corporate Government Classified Index Databaseq and launched pSeries of Reports of China Corporate Governance Classified Index, thus having published 11 index reports under 5 categories and having become the research center with the largest number of published corporate governance index reports in China, and having build the largest domestic corporate governance classified index professional database.
In his report, Prof. Gao pointed out that the reform of the state-owned enterprises should not blindly seek the maintenance and appreciation of assets value but should seek the maximum benefits for the public. On that basis, the reform of the state-owned enterprises should be classified. The state-owned enterprises highly featuring the public welfare, the natural monopoly and scarce resources monopoly should be turned into the pure non-profit state-owned enterprises. The competitive state-owned enterprises are suitable for the development of the mixed ownership and the key to the development of the mixed ownership does not lie in the pure introduction of the nongovernmental capital but should conduct the regulatory corporate governance. Prof. Gao pointed out that the current competitive state-owned listed companies in China have more or less problems in respect of the power balance with shareholder structure, Investor protection, board governance and board independence, entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial independence, financial governance and risk control, voluntary information disclosure, executive compensation incentives, etc., by comparing the Chinese and foreign study cases and the full-sample data of the listed companies and through the empirical analysis. So only when these enterprises improve and optimize these aspects can they truly enhance their operational efficiency.
The classified reform of the state-owned enterprises and the introduction of the mixed ownership are the importation direction for the reform in this aspect put forward by the 18th National CPC Congress. The hall for the special topic meeting was filled to capacity, and the meeting was attended by teachers and students from Xioan Jiaotong University, Changoan University, Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, Beijing Union University, etc. This special topic meeting aroused the greater interests from the teachers and students who were enthusiastic in raising questions for the discussion and exchange with Prof. Gao, who spoke highly of the teachers and students for their higher academic level. The participating teachers and students expressed that they did benefit a lot from the meeting, thinking that the special topic meeting would stand them in good stead in participating in the research of the reform of the state-owned enterprises in the near future.
The closing ceremony and the award-presentation ceremony for the First International Conference on Management, Innovation& Development (MID2014) was held at RM. 611 of East Siyuan Building of School of Economics and Management on the morning of October 26. Zhang Mingyu,Party Secretary of BJTU School of Economics and Management, was present at the closing ceremony which was presided over by Zhang Wensong, dean of Business Administration College.
The first was the exchange and discussion process. The participating experts and scholars gave the full confirmation and recognition to the academic level of the First International Conference on Management, Innovation& Development (MID2014) sponsored and undertaken by Business Administration College and the organization work, enthusiastically applauding that it was a high-grade and high-level large international academic conference remodeled in the Industrial Technology Research field in China and the strategic management innovation and the business model. They looked forward to the 2nd International Conference on Management, Innovation& Development (MID2015) to be sponsored by Business Administration College. All VIP guests also enthusiastically contributed their respective favorable proposals and advice to the successful convening of the next conference.
In the second part for the closing ceremony, Shi Xianliang, associate dean of School of Economics and Management made the closing address, congratulating on the success of this conference and expressing the heartfelt gratitude to all VIP guests and the authors from all different countries and regions for their contributions. Mr. Shi remarked that the conference achieved the purpose for promoting the mutual cooperation and development by drawing on the experience of each other for our mutual benefits through the face-to-face communication, exchange and discussion. In addition, Mr. Shi introduced the basic situations and development direction of BJTU School of Economics and Management and also kindly invited the VIP guests to attend the 2nd International Conference on Management, Innovation& Development (MID2015).
The third part for the closing ceremony was the award-presentation ceremony for excellent research papers. Zhang Wensong, dean of Business Administration College, introduced that 11 excellent research papers out of 13. papers rigorously selected by famous experts and scholars thus invited, including the first prize for two papers, the second prize for 4 papers and the third prize for 5 papers. Mr. Zhang announced the list of award winners at the closing ceremony and also invited the famous experts and scholars to present the awards to the prize-winning authors.
The First International Conference on Management, Innovation& Development (MID2014) received more than 280 papers from more than 30 universities and research institutions at home and abroad, including Xi'an Jiaotong University, Beijing Jiaotong University,University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, North China Electric Power University and Shandong University of Science and Technology, etc. Through different rounds of review, 130 papers contributed from domestic and foreign authors were finalized for publication. The conference themes were involved with 8 research fields, particularly including pResearch on Business Model Innovation and Transformation in the Homogenization Ageq, pResearch of Modern management Science and Engineering Theory Innovationq, pResearch of Corporate Strategic Positioning and Sustainable Development under the Hyper-competitive Environmentq and pResearch of Logistics and Supply Chain Theory and model Innovationq, etc.
