Special Report Good Community or Good Neighbors? Studies of Industrial Network, Corporate Alliance and Product Innovation under Series of Frontier Lectures of Business Administration College entitled "Road for Academic Growth"

At 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. on December 5, 2014, an academic lecture entitled "Face-to-Face Exchange with Masters" sponsored by Postgraduate Work Department and held by at SD306 of Business Administration College. Prof. Eric Fang gave an academic report entitled  pGood Community or Good Neighbors? Studies of Industrial Network, Corporate Alliance and Product Innovationq, which was presided over by Prof. Tang Fangcheng of Business Administration College.

Prof. Eric Fang proposed the problem entitled pwhat kind of enterprises can really have the innovation capacity in the context of the center and the periphery of the industrial network?q based on the trend of the evolving tendency from pR & Dq to pC & Dq against the current innovation environment. Prof. Eric Fang and his cooperators discovered the industries and the network elements for the enterpriseso new product development, namely the specific industrial knowledge accumulation, cognitive inertia and network site, may affect the enterprise product creativity through empirical study. Prof. Eric Fang further pointed out that the better management research should be based on the p3-in-1q framework, namely pTheory-Phenomena-Dataq to review the conventional thinking in many management practical activities and explore the prational but quite expectedq research problems so that we can have new discoveries.

Dr. Eric Fang is a tenured Professor of Business Administration of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the prestigious scholar of James Tower. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is among the 5 top-notch public universities in the USA, particularly its business school having steadily ranked among top 10 in the USA. He honorably obtained the doctor's degree in Business Administration (Marketing) from University of Missouri. His research fields include: Corporate Marketing Strategy, Business Model, Corporate Innovation and Financial Service Industrial Management. He has published more than 20 academic papers at the top-notch international management journals, including Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, Organization Science and Journal of International Business Studies, etc. His research projects have won Best Paper Award (2008) from American Marketing Association (AMA) and US Financial Service Research Best Paper Award (2009) and other honors and awards. His researches have been reproduced for publication by Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Harvard Business Review and Economist. In 2010, Dr. Eric Fang was honorably presented with the Young Scholar Award for Management Studies by US Academy of Management Studies.

After the report, Prof. Eric Fang shared the interactive exchange with the teachers and students, answering the questions raised by teachers and students, so his report was highly praised and well accepted. Zhang Qiusheng, Dean of School of Economics and Management, was present at the report. After the report, he conducted the in-depth exchange and communication with Prof. Eric Fang in respect of the academic research and postgraduate education, etc., between both sides in the hope that both sides could jointly promote the Bilateral Academic Festival next year at our school.

This report is one of the annual reports of series of lectures entitled "Road for Academic Growth" of "Road for Student Growth in three major sectors" highly recommended by Business Administration College, which consists of activities for "Road for Academic Growth", "Road for Career Growth" and "Road for Entrepreneurial Growth" initiated by Business Administration College. In view of "Road for Academic Growth", the well-experienced domestic and overseas high-end scholars are invited to guide the young teachers and postgraduates at our college to publish the high-level academic papers, apply for the high-level projects financially supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and National Social Science Fund, etc; in view of "Road for Career Growth", the professional managers who have gained the fast growth after their university graduation are invited to interpret and analyze the road for career growth for students of our college to facilitate them "to know themselves and the society, exhibit themselves, manage themselves for the self-growth"; In view of "Road for Entrepreneurial Growth", the successful entrepreneurs are invited to systematically interpret the way for successful business operation to stimulate the entrepreneurial awareness and entrepreneurial passion of the university students and enhance their conscientious and purpose-oriented studies.
