Professor Li Gang from the University of Surrey Conducts Academic Lecture at the School of Economics and Management

On the afternoon of September 5, Professor Li Gang, Vice Dean of the Business School at the University of Surrey, visited our institute to give a lecture titled “How to Carry Out and Publish High-Quality Tourism Research.” The lecture was held in Room 307 of the East Siyuan Building at Beijing Jiaotong University, hosted by Professor Liu Yingqi. Faculty and students from the Department of Business Management, Department of Economics, as well as doctoral and master's students attended the event, engaging in lively discussions with Professor Li.

Professor Li, elected as an Academician of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism in 2017, serves on the Executive Committee of the International Society for Tourism Economics and is a founding fellow of the China Tourism Research International Federation. His research focuses on methodologies for tourism demand forecasting and economic evaluation, as well as quantitative studies on destination competitiveness and tourist behavior. He has published nearly 100 papers in top international tourism journals and has participated in research projects funded by various international organizations, including the European Commission and the Pacific Asia Travel Association. He currently holds the position of Associate Editor for *Tourism Management* (impact factor: 10.9) and *Annals of Tourism Research* (impact factor: 10.4), as well as serving on the editorial boards of several international journals.

During the lecture, he emphasized the importance of originality, methodology, practical significance, and storytelling ability in writing high-quality papers. He outlined three essential elements for publishing a good paper: successful research design, effective communication within the team, and sustainable teamwork. In the interactive session with students, Professor Li patiently addressed questions regarding the spatial distribution of tourism resources in China, experimental design in metaverse research, and submission processes, offering valuable insights and guidance based on his own publication and review experiences.

The successful conduct of this lecture deepened the understanding of faculty and students on how to carry out and publish high-quality tourism research, inspiring graduate and doctoral students to engage more deeply in their professional fields. The event concluded successfully.
