From July 27, 2024 to August 7, 2024 (Beijing time), the 9th Doctoral Consortium of the Sino-EU Doctoral School for Logistics, Information, Management, and Service Science ("Summer School") will be hosted by the International Research Center for Information Management Theory and Technology (ICIR) of Beijing Jiaotong University, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the Graduate School of Beijing Jiaotong University, and the School of Economics and Management of Beijing Jiaotong University. Additionally, the event will be hosted by the Henley Business School South Africa Campus of the University of Reading and Shangri-La Vocational College. It is co-organized by the Beijing Logistics Informatization Research Base and the Beijing Key Laboratory of Logistics Management and Technology. The 9th Doctoral Consortium will be held simultaneously in Yunnan, China, and Cape Town, South Africa.
Professor Jiang Hui, Vice Dean of the Graduate School, Professor Lan Hongjie, and Associate Professor Huang Anqiang from the School of Economics and Management led the team to participate in the Summer School on behalf of Beijing Jiaotong University. Professor Vicenç Fernández and Professor Eva Gallardo-Gallardo participated in the summer school on behalf of the École Polytechnique Universitat de Catalunya, a foreign partner of CEIBS. The Summer School aims to provide students with academic lectures, forums, and practical research in the fields of logistics, information technology, management, and service science, to discuss the current situation, challenges, and future opportunities of logistics in China's Plateau region. Summer school students participated in two international conferences, LISS2024 and IEIS2024, and engaged in academic reports and a series of lectures by internationally renowned experts, both online and offline. They visited and investigated relevant enterprises and units on-site, understanding the actual situation of local logistics, as well as the actual needs of local governments and enterprises for plateau logistics, and carried out practical case studies on-site to combine theory with practice. At the same time, the summer school also organized students to visit the museum, learn about the local history, culture, and development process, and cultivate students' profound feelings of patriotism and a strong sense of social responsibility.
In the offline link in Cape Town, South Africa, the Summer School organized experts to teach students a series of courses on the topics of "big data", "artificial intelligence", "supply chain management", "data visualization" and "academic conference experience" at the South African campus of Henley Business School, University of Reading, England, which broadened students' academic vision and provided opportunities for academic thinking collision and exchange. All the teachers and students also visited Cape Town District 6 Museum to deeply understand the life changes of local residents during the apartheid period, experienced the traditional culture and history of South Africa, and went to Cape Town Port to conduct field research, discuss the development mode of port logistics hub and information application, and cultivate students' ability to combine theory with practice and solve practical problems.
In the offline link in Yunnan, China, the Summer School organized a number of lectures and seminars in Lijiang Normal College, Shangri-La Vocational College and other colleges and universities, organized students to think and learn the practical application of relevant theories in logistics, informatization and service science, and jointly discussed the training of plateau logistics professionals with relevant local government departments and college teachers. The students were organized to investigate many enterprises and logistics parks such as Kunming International Flower Auction and Trading Center Co., LTD., China Railway Union Kunming Central Station, Lijiang Airport Cargo Station, Lijiang East Railway Freight Station, Tiecheng Logistics Company, Xiaozhongdian Railway and railway combined transport Project, and East Tibet Logistics Park. Investigated the local industry and supply chain operation, the construction of the logistics park and its ecosystem, the characteristics and challenges of local railway, road and air transportation, and had an in-depth discussion on the status quo, challenges, opportunities and future direction of logistics development in Diqing Prefecture, Yunnan, with Long Xiongliang, Party secretary and director of the Diqing Bureau of Commerce and director of the Council of the Supply and Marketing Cooperative Association of Diqing Prefecture. Based on the research, the summer school conducted on-site case teaching on issues such as green, intelligent, intensive and "last mile" logistics system construction under low population density of plateau logistics. The Summer school was strongly supported by Huang Jian, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of Yunnan Alumni Association.
The 9th CEIBS Summer School not only provided valuable opportunities for academic exploration, international exchange and business practice for teachers and students of the summer School, but also deepened people-to-people exchanges at home and abroad as well as in different regions of China, laying a solid foundation for research and cooperation in the fields of logistics, information technology, management and service science.
Introduction to the Summer School of CEIBS Doctoral School of Logistics, Information Technology, Management and Service Science
In September 2010, the Ministry of Education of China initiated the establishment of the China-Europe Alliance for Engineering Education (SEEEP), which consists of 18 Chinese universities and 12 European universities in the "CLUSTER of Universities of Science and Technology" (CLUSTER). The main purpose is "how to update the concept of engineering education, reform the mode of engineering teaching, and expand social cooperation in the context of globalization".
On September 19, 2014, the project of "Sino-European Doctoral School of Logistics, Informatization, Management and Service Science" jointly declared by Beijing Jiaotong University and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) was approved by the Sino-European Union for Engineering Education (SEEEP), and the specific construction work was undertaken by the ICIR Center of Beijing Jiaotong University. The overall goal of the project is to enhance the cooperation ability of doctoral students in China and Europe, explore the practice of diversified international cooperation models of doctoral students, promote the development and exchange of theories on the all-round training of doctoral students in China and Europe, and deepen the collaborative innovation of research in the fields of logistics, informatization, management and service science. Encourage scholars from both sides to conduct in-depth research on major academic issues between China and the EU, and propose innovative and efficient solutions.
The Summer School of CEIBS Doctoral School of Logistics, Information Technology, Management and Service Science (referred to as the Summer School) is one of the specific construction work of the "CEIBS Doctoral School of Logistics, Information Technology, Management and Service Science".
