On July 28, 2023, sponsored by the International Research Center for Information Management Theory and Technology (ICIR) of Beijing Jiaotong University, the Catalonia Institute of Technology in Spain, the Graduate School of Beijing Jiaotong University, and the School of Economics and Management of Beijing Jiaotong University, organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and hosted by the Beijing Logistics Informatization Research Base, the 8th Doctoral Consortium of Sino-EU Doctoral School for Logistics, Information, Management, and Service Science (referred to as the "Summer School"), co-organized by the Logistics Management and Technology Laboratory of Beijing Jiaotong University (Beijing Key Laboratory) and the School of International Education of Beijing Jiaotong University, continues at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. All members of the summer school jointly listened to the academic lectures of Professor Vicenc Fernandez, Professor Muhammet Deveci, and Professor Eva Gallardo Gallardo, and conducted academic exchanges after class. This event strengthened the cooperation and exchange between domestic and foreign scholars, achieving a win-win collaboration between our school and the construction of the student base.

1、 Professor Vicenc Fernandez's Academic Lectures and Exchanges

On the morning of July 28th at 8:00 am, all participants in the summer school gathered to attend a lecture titled "Qualitative Comparative Analysis: an approach based on Boolean algebra." The lecture was delivered by Professor Vicenc Fernandez from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia - Barcelona Polytechnic University (UPC) in Spain, an honorary senior researcher at the Bartlett School of Sustainable Architecture at University College London, UK. The session was presided over by Professor Muhammet Deveci, a visiting professor at Imperial College London, UK, and an associate professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering of Türkiye Naval Academy, Istanbul National Defense University, Türkiye.

Professor Fernandez emphasized the significance of Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) in social sciences. Unlike traditional statistical methods that focus on correlation and regression analysis, QCA is tailored to analyze small and medium-sized datasets, making it ideal for examining a limited number of cases. It is particularly effective in exploring multiple causal conditions that interact to produce specific outcomes. Professor Fernandez highlighted that QCA provides a systematic and rigorous approach to unraveling complex causal relationships, making it an appealing method for researchers investigating various social phenomena.

Following Professor Fernandez's insightful presentation, Professor Huang Anqiang engaged in an in-depth discussion with him. Simultaneously, students actively contributed based on practical challenges they had encountered, fostering a more vivid and profound understanding of the intricate relationship between scientific research and practical application.

At 10 a.m. on July 28th, all participants in the summer school delved into Professor Muhammet Deveci's lecture titled "Fuzzy Sets and Their Applications," facilitated by Professor Vicenc Fernandez. Professor Deveci illustrated numerous everyday examples of fuzzy sets and engaged with classmates in a friendly manner. He covered the latest advancements in fuzzy sets and their extensions, along with the practical application of decision models derived from these sets in real-world scenarios. The content sparked a lively discussion among the students.

On the afternoon of July 28th at 14:00, all participants in the summer school continued their learning with Professor Eva Gallardo Gallardo's lecture titled "Mastering Systematic Literature Reviews." Professor Wang Jun from the International Research Center for Information Management Theory and Technology (ICIR) of Beijing Jiao Tong University facilitated the session. Professor Gallardo Gallardo delved into the significance of literature reviews in management research. She explained the intricacies of systematic literature reviews, covering how to conduct them and craft publications for top journals. Practical skills and suggestions were also provided to the students, sparking significant interest and fostering lively discussions among the attendees.
