Let Love Be Unobstructed and Walk with Special Olympics - The Volunteer Service Activity of "Hand in Hand with Special Olympics, Touching Jiaotong University" at the School of Economics and Management has come to a successful conclusion

On May 21, 2023, commemorating the 33rd National Day for Assisting Persons with Disabilities, the School of Economics and Management embraced a meaningful initiative. Stepping into the world of special needs children grappling with conditions like autism, emotional disorders, or intellectual disabilities, the school played an active role in societal service, championing integrated education. The "Hand in Hand with Special Olympics, Touching Jiaotong University" initiative, jointly organized by the Youth Volunteer Service Team of the School of Economics and Management and the Beijing Special Olympics Family Support Network, aimed to provide warm and scientific guidance for the growth of special needs children while fostering the spirit of self-improvement through Special Olympics on campus.

The launch ceremony, held at 1 pm in the academic lecture hall on the second floor of the mechanical building, witnessed the presence of esteemed figures such as Zhang Xinying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Economics and Management, Li Juan, Head of the East Asian Region of the International Special Olympics Association, Sun Lihong, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Disabled Persons' Federation Intelligence Association, Han Rongfang, Chairman of the Special Olympics Family Support Network, and teachers from the Youth League Committee of Economics and Management.

Zhang Xinying extended a warm welcome on behalf of the college, expressing hopes that the event would enrich the worldviews of Special Olympics children and volunteers alike. Li Juan introduced the mobilization group and integration movement of the Special Olympics, setting the stage for speeches from Sun Lihong, Han Rongfang, representatives of Special Olympics athletes, and volunteers.

The fusion sports segment, taking place at 2:30 pm at Shaw Playground, immersed Special Olympics families and volunteers in an array of delightful games. From volleyball interaction to New Eagle Catching Chicken, Little Goalkeeper, Fun Table Tennis, Volleyball Challenge, and more, trust flourished, and laughter echoed. The addition of a Tibetan ethnic dance brought the interaction to a climax, concluding with the entire crowd joining the "Rabbit Dance."

From early training to event organization, over 100 school volunteers actively participated in the "Special Olympics on campus" activity. This not only deepened students' understanding of the Special Olympics but also encouraged more young people to join the cause of supporting special groups. The event fostered a sense of camaraderie, happiness, and friendship, enriching personal experiences and inspiring future participation in related activities.

In alignment with the Chinese tradition of helping others, the voluntary spirit of "dedication, friendship, mutual assistance, and progress" emanated warmth and inspiration. Volunteer service stands as a vital component of the School of Economics and Management's commitment to fortifying students' spiritual civilization, nurturing and practicing socialist core values. In recent years, propelled by the college's "Three Comprehensive Education" initiative, volunteer service has thrived, and the volunteer team has experienced substantial growth. The "Purple Warbler" Youth Volunteer Service Group boasts over 3,200 registered volunteers, engaging in 156 projects with a cumulative volunteer service time surpassing 19,000 hours. Business management students, in particular, have played a pivotal role, contributing with enthusiasm, sincerity, and thoughtfulness, enhancing their comprehensive literacy and cultivating humanistic sentiments through dedicated service to society.
