Now in its ninth edition, the list's release has become a highly anticipated event, capturing the attention of media outlets and scholars worldwide.

For the first time, the list's data extraction relied on the updated first-level discipline classification mapping of the Ministry of Education of Elsevier, covering a comprehensive 111 disciplines. This refined mapping not only provides a more intuitive view of Chinese scholars' subject attribution and performance but also aligns with China's discipline settings, offering a nuanced depiction of the academic research landscape. The result is an effective tool for sorting, analyzing, and researching the citation performance of scholars, offering a panoramic view of outstanding scholars in specific fields to the broader academic community.
