The 2019-2020 National Scholarship and National Encouragement Scholarship Public Defense was successfully held in SD306 at Siyuan East Building on October 8, 2020. 

The judge panel of the scholarship defense are composed of teachers and public judges. Among them, the teacher judges are composed of 13 members, including Ms. WEN Yingchun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Prof. ZHOU Yaodong, Vice Dean for Undergraduate Programmes, also Directors of Student Affairs Office at BJTU, student counselors and other teachers. 9 students were selected within undergraduate students of Year 1 that served as the public judges. 

A total of 38 students were shortlisted as National Scholarship candidates, 50 students were shortlisted as National Encouragement Scholarship candidates, after the application and screening procedure of the School. Each candidate reported on his/her performance in the past academic year in terms of ideological growth, academic study, research practice, volunteer service and social work through PPT presentation and personal statement. After the defense, on-site staff collected the score and announced the score of each student and made the recommendation decision strictly accordance with the "Rules for the Selection of National Scholarship for the 2019-2020 Academic Year of School of Economics and Management" and "Rules for the Selection of National Encouragement Scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year of School of Economics and Management".

The candidates of the defense not only have made excellent performance to represent the contemporary young students, but also set role model for the rest of the students, so that the excellency can be continuously inherited. In addition, the scholarship is an encouragement to the students in academic study and life, and it plays an important role for guidance. It encourages and advocates students to study hard, to stay positive, and strive to become a well-rounded student with comprehensive skills and knowledge to success.
