On December 6-7, 2013, our schoolos MBA Education Center, MBA Education Center of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, MBA Education Center of Beijing Forestry University co-sponsored the MBA Case Teaching and Development Joint Training Class at Meeting Room SD821 with satisfactory results. This training has attracted nearly one hundred faculties and students from six universities, particularly including BJTU, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing Forestry University and Beihang University, etc.
The training class has the short-term lectures, and Zhang Mingyu, secretary of Party Committee of School of Economics and Management, BJTU, Li Dongdong, associate dean of School of Economics and Management of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Pan Huancheng, assistant to Dean of School of Economics and Management of Beijing Forestry University and directors of MBA Education Centers from the abovementioned three universities attended the class opening ceremony. Zhang Mingyu and Li Dongdong made speeches respectively at the class opening ceremony which was presided over by Lu Haijun, director of MBA Education Center.
The training lasted two days, with Prof. Shih-Fen S.Chen from Richard IVEY School of Business, University of Western Ontario, as the main lecturer. The training contents are mainly composed of Case Teaching and Case Development. Prof. Chen presented a detailed introduction of the case teaching methods and skills based on the actual cases of the marketing strategy and financial management and also introduced the process of the case development with SYNNEX as the typical case. The training class was full of the active atmosphere and all teachers participating the training had a profound understanding and awareness of the skills and methods of MBA case teaching and development and expressed that they did benefit considerably from the training.
After the training, a simple training class graduation ceremony was held and all teachers attending the training were honorably given course completion certificate jointly conferred by School of Economics and Management of BJTU, School of Economics and Management of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, School of Economics and Management of Beijing Forestry University and Richard IVEY School of Business Asian Management Research Center.
This training turned out to be very successful, which, no doubt, will contributed to the comprehensive improvement of the MBA teaching case research and development and the overall teaching level by teachers of our school.
A Profile of Prof. Shih-Fen S.Chen:
Prof. Shih-Fen S.Chen, born in Taiwan, obtained his Ph. D from University of Illinois in the USA and has many yearso business management experience and teaching experience at various universities. He has successively taught in University of Illinois, Brandeis University, and Kansas State University and Richard IVEY School of Business, University of Western Ontario. Currently, he works as the chief professor of William Shurniak International Business at Richard IVEY School of Business. Prof. Chen is highly learned and has gained profound academic attainments and published many academic research papers at the worldos top-notch journals, say, JBR, JIBS and SMJ, etc., mainly focusing on the research of the global strategy and marketing. Prof. Chen is a pioneering in the case-based teaching, and in the recent decade, he has been devoted to the case-based teaching and creation by having published more than 70 cases all told, thus having exerted the profound impact on the world MBA case creation and teaching fields.
