During 23-26, July 2014, with the approval from the Ministry of Education of the Peopleos Republic of China, "2014 International Conference on Logistics, informatics and Service Science (LISSo2014)" and "2014 International Conference on Industrial Economics and Industrial Security (IEISo2014)", cosponsored by International Center for Informatics Research Beijing Jiaotong University, Industrial Security Research Center of BJTU and School of Economics and Management, and organized by University of California, Berkeley, was successfully held. This conference was conducted in two separate places, respectively at College of Engineering of University of California, Berkeley, and School of Economics and Management of Beijing Jiaotong University. Professor and party secretary of School of Economics and Management of Beijing Jiaotong University led a delegation to participate in the conference held in University of California, Berkeley. The two separate conferences received 719 academic research papers from 17 countries and regions, 347 of which were identified for the conference proceedings, which would be published by the world famous publisher Springer and also submitted to ISTP and EI retrieval journals.
On July 24, the opening ceremony was held. Prof. Philip M.Kaminsky, dean of IE&OR Department of University of California, Berkeley presided over the meeting and delivered the welcome speech. Prof. Zhang Mingyu gave a speech on behalf of the sponsor. Prof. Zhang Runtong, the Chinese director and general chairman of the conference from International Center for Informatics Research Beijing Jiaotong University introduced the conference history and development, and also reported the organization of the two separate conferences of this session. Present at the opening ceremony were more than 100 scholars from 17 countries and regions in the world. Prof. James M.Tien, dean of College of Engineering of University of Miami and a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, Prof. Jaume Valls-Pasola, dean of Business Administration and Management Department of Universitat de Barcelona (Spain), Prof. Keiichi Nakata, from Henley School of Business of Reading University (UK), were present at the meeting as the keynote speakers. Also present at the opening ceremony were Prof. Zhang Liang, the program chair of the conference and Prof. Zhang Juliang, etc.
After the opening ceremony, the keynote speakers successively made the keynote speeches on Big Date, Logistics and Supply Chain Innovative Management, Semantic Description of Information management, etc., and their latest research achievements aroused the extensive interest and the strong response from the participants.
During the three days, the conference had 9 parallel forums and scholars in the corresponding fields shared their latest research results and took a lead in the heated in-depth discussion.
The success of the two separate conferences drew the attention and praises our schoolos relevant disciplines from domestic and international experts and scholars of natural sciences, engineering technological sciences and humanities and social sciences, which played a positive role in enhancing our schoolos academic level and exerted the great significance in building our school into the world-class university.
The conference was strongly supported by 7th Framework Programme (FP7), Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), K. C. Wong Education Foundation of Hong Kong, University of Reading, University of California, Berkeley and Springer-Verlag. Currently, there have been four successful sessions of LISS Series Conference. As it has the extensive international impact and the higher academic level, the conference proceedings for this international conference have been first retrieved by EI, and it has been retrieved by ICIS-P (formerly ISTP) and EI.
