The fourth KPMG tutorial class activity—caring for autistic children
Release date: 27-Aug-2019

On August 16, 2019, the heat has gone, and the cool autumn comes. The sky is as blue as it has just been washed. In such a sunny autumn day, 10 students of KPMG tutor class, representing the class, formed a volunteer team with KPMG staff, to participate in the charity activity of caring for autistic children by Beijing Xingxingyu Education Research Institute.

At one o'clock in the afternoon, the party came to the Beijing Xingxingyu Education Research Institute located in Shuangqiao, Chaoyang District, Beijing. Beijing Xingxingyu Education Research Institute was founded on March 15, 1993. It is the first private non-profit organization in China to provide education for autistic children and their families. Tian Huiping, the founder, is a parent of autistic children.

From 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the teachers of Xingxingyu Education Research Institute explained the knowledge of autism and the "behavior training (ABA)" method for parents of autistic children, so that they could train and help their children in their daily life. Volunteers were responsible for taking care of their children during the parents' class. Before that, teacher Li of Xingxingyu Education Research Institute conducted a 45 minute training for volunteers, mainly introducing autism, the care methods and precautions of autistic children.

At 2 p.m., volunteers took over the children from their parents and began to take care of them one on one. Each child is very different in self-care ability, language expression ability, language understanding ability, hobbies and other aspects. According to the situation of each child, some volunteers took their children to the playground to play on the slide and seesaw, some took the children to write and draw, some took the children to watch moving pictures, and at the same time took care of the children's drinking water, snacks, toilet and other matters. Some of these "star children" were clever, naughty, quiet and crying. The volunteers spent two and a half hours in the bustle and enrichment.

After the handover with the parents, the volunteers gathered in the classroom to summarize their experiences in the afternoon. Some volunteers pointed out that in the process of taking care of the children in the afternoon, they found that some children had no problems in communication, which seemed to be no different from normal children. The teacher explained that autism is not a disease. It is a kind of generalized developmental disorder. Some children do not have barriers in language communication, but may have obstacles in other aspects. It is not enough to find it in one afternoon. Each child's performance characteristics are different, but just like people with myopia who have visual impairment, they are only a certain aspect of development obstacles, so do not discriminate against autistic children, appeal to everyone to care for autistic children, and spread this idea.

At the end of the activity, KPMG donated the bags and water cups prepared in advance to the star Rain Education Research Institute. Mr. Li said these bags and water cups would be distributed to the children at the beginning of the next training class.

The volunteers ended this beautiful afternoon with moving and grateful, and expressed their will to care for autistic children with their own love actions, and to support them to walk out of the lonely world.
